Arielle Jacobs Is Aladdin’s Next Princess Jasmine

Broadway star Arielle Jacobs (In the Heights, Wicked) will join the cast of Aladdin on Broadway beginning Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Courtney Reed, who originated the role, will take her last bow Wednesday, January 10, before joining costars Adam Jacobs (original Broadway Aladdin) and Michael James Scott (original Broadway standby Genie) for the Los Angeles engagement of the North American tour at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre January 13-February 18.
Isabelle McCalla, who originated and currently plays Jasmine in the North American touring company, will temporarily play the role at Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theatre in the interim.
Based on the 1992 Disney animated film, Aladdin opened on Broadway on March 20, 2014. With a score by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice with songs such as “Friend Like Me” and the Academy Award-winning “A Whole New World,” the show features a new book and additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin.
Jacobs joins a cast led by Telly Leung as Aladdin, Major Attaway as Genie, and Jonathan Freeman as Jafar. The show also features Steel Burkhardt, Brian Gonzales, and Brad Weinstock as Aladdin’s sidekicks Kassim, Babkak, and Omar, Clifton Davis as Sultan, and Don Darryl Rivera as Iago. Juwan Crawley, James Moye, and Deonté L. Warren stand by for several principals.
The ensemble includes Kathryn Allison, Netanel Bellaishe, Mike Cannon, Andrew Cao, Damian Chambers, Alicia Charles, Lauryn Ciardullo, Joshua Dela Cruz, Jacob Dickey, Josh Drake, Gaby Gamache, April Holloway, Adam Hyndman, Ethan Le Phong, Nathan Lucrezio, Stanley Martin, Amber Owens, Jamie Kasey Patterson, Bobby Pestka, Ariel Reid, Jennifer Rias, Angelo Soriano, Dennis Stowe, Kathryn Terza, and Paige Williams.
The creative team includes Bob Crowley (scenic design), Gregg Barnes (costume design), Natasha Katz (lighting design), Ken Travis (sound design), and Jim Steinmeyer (illusions).
